the White Hat guide
At first sight, Drums Cafe at the Queen Victoria Market appears to be serving Indian food. However, a closer inspection shows a number of Pacific Islands dishes including Kotturotti and Tempered Banana Blossom. As you would expect from Island food, fish dishes are a common offering, and there is a subtle difference in the curries from the more common Indian offerings. Dishes change daily, but try some of the more unusual dishes with a wonderfully light side salad. To put yourself in the mood, you are likely to see and hear Islanders drumming, singing and dancing on a Saturday morning close by (outside the meat hall). The Victoria Market is visited during White Hat Tours' City Walking Tour.
