Situated conveniently close to the theatres, Pellegrini's has long been a favourite haunt for Melbournians to have coffee 'after the show' or for a pick-me-up during the day.

You may also enjoy a hearty pasta - in fact you may well find yourself sitting in the kitchen next to the stove with the steaming pasta. Which feels right - sitting in the kitchen of an old friend. A lot has changed at the top of Bourke Street, but not Pellegrini's. It must be just about due for a National Trust listing. Unfortunately the prices are no longer particularly cheap.

If you're waiting for a friend, the little bookshop next door seems to be open all hours, and is a pleasant place to browse and pass the time.
