Petty's Orchard Antique Apple Tasting Festival

The annual Petty's Orchard Antique Apple Festival is on again! Set on the beautiful banks of the Yarra River in Templestowe, this event promises to bring delights to the senses with over 200 varieties of apples to taste, heritage orchard tours, local produce stalls, cooking demonstrations, great organic food & cider, Rare Breeds BBQ with La Luna Bistrot chef Michael Zanegu, educational presentations from Vasili (Vasili's Garden - SBS), Peter Allen (Heritage Fruits Society, Mountain Districts Permaculture Group), Adam Donnison (Snake Gully Cider) and more to be announced. Special performance by Australian icon Peter Combe will thrill children and adults alike. Tim Tim the clown will MC as well as performing feats to amaze. Learn about rare breeds and heritage fruits from the experts. Apple readings, cider tastings, permaculture information and advice, children’s activities and much much more. Tea and coffee as well as organic hot foods will be available. This is a bicycle friendly event, situated on the Yarra Trail bicycle route. Alternately, catch the train to Templestowe station, the orchards are just 4km away.

Summer Sessions music and fun for the kids

Over the summer months the popular ‘Summer Sessions’ will be on at Rippon Lea House & Garden. You can take a picnic, relax and be entertained within the lush surrounds of this grand 19th century estate. Children’s art and craft activities conducted by Camp Australia include: face painting, bead decorations, badge making, tug of war, handball target and live music entertainment. Prices for 2010 are:

Herring Island Summer Arts Festival

The Bentleigh Sunday Market is run by the Rotary Club of Bentleigh Moorabbin Central. Since 1977, over $1.7 million has been raised to support local charities and Rotary Projects. There are about 150 stalls available, where you will find plants, clothing, cosmetics, jewellery, books, videos, tools, toys, crafts, pre loved goods, and more! Caribbean Gardens Market

A large market picnic area and a big range of new and second hand goods. On Wednesdays entry is free and there is access to and general market, food stalls and playground. Caribbean Gardens Market is close to the Eastlink freeway and is now oppen Fridays as well as Wednesdays and Sundays. It is closed Christmas Day.

As far as White Hat is aware, this is one of the few regular markets in Melbourne where you can still see an auctioneer formally auctioning of job lots oftrash & treasure and other items.

Created by the social advocate Fr Bob Maguire, this market concept is about reigniting in us all the power of community featuring arts & crafts, produce, products, ideas and social initiatives. Located in close proximity to the well-established South Melbourne Market and within walking distance of both the Albert Park and South Melbourne shopping precincts, the market will initially be open every Sunday. Father Bob's Community Market will provide an all day market offering a diverse range of produce and products, including arts, crafts, jewellery and clothing. in.cube8r gallery is a shop/gallery which runs like a long term market. It is open to anyone who makes things by hand and supports all things craft, art and hand-made in Melbourne. The gallery is divided up into glass cubicles, shelves, racks and partitions which artists can lease for a small weekly cost over a three month period. There is no commission on items sold. When Whitehat visited in June2008 we discovered a treasure trove of new upcoming artisans as well as designers like Julie Ughetti, with an international reputation. The work ranges from the quirky to sophisticated and given the diversity of art work on display you appear to be guaranteed to find eclectic original pieces.

Kingsbury Drive Community Market

Some markets situated inside shopping malls are rather sad affairs, but not this one. White Hat found a range of quality hand made goods as wll as furniture and homemaking goods.
