For most of the week the large Croydon Market building now functions as a acepark bt in Sundays and Mondays it becomes a large indoor market with fresh produce, furniture, tools, craft and bric-a-brac. As far as White Hat is aware, this is one of the few regular markets in Melbourne where you can still see an auctioneer formally auctioning of job lots oftrash & treasure and other items.

in.cube8r gallery is a shop/gallery which runs like a long term market. It is open to anyone who makes things by hand and supports all things craft, art and hand-made in Melbourne. The gallery is divided up into glass cubicles, shelves, racks and partitions which artists can lease for a small weekly cost over a three month period. There is no commission on items sold. When Whitehat visited in June2008 we discovered a treasure trove of new upcoming artisans as well as designers like Julie Ughetti, with an international reputation. The work ranges from the quirky to sophisticated and given the diversity of art work on display you appear to be guaranteed to find eclectic original pieces.

Dame Elisabeth Murdoch designed and planted the herbaceous borders, picking garden, shrub walks and tree-shaded lawns at the heart of her sublime garden with its famous lemon-scented gum avenue. From these, the prestigious Qantas In Flight Magazine has chosen the White Hat Tour of Melbourne Cemetery as its featured Australian tour for the May 2007 edition. This tour was also featured by ABC radio on 24 May and will feature in a documentary series on Burke and Wills to be shown on European television in 2008. The tour has been operating for many years and has won praise from a wide range of sources. This is not a dry and stuffy tour but in keeping with all White Hat offerings it is Informed, Intelligent, Independent (and occasionally) Irreverent.
