gardens can also be highly decorative. No matter what the season, there is an abundance of produce with a vast array
of vegetables, herbs and fruits growing among roses, perennials and annuals. Join Beverley for a tour of her garden, a cooking demonstration using her
produce, and a delicious lunch featuring a 3-course tasting menu and a glass of

Ripe for the Picking: Sustainable Gardening with Clint Kenny
|
Clint
Kenny is a progressive young Warwick-based garden designer with a flair for
sustainable and interactive landscapes. Clint will present a workshop focussing
on using edible plants in your garden in an aesthetically pleasing way; the
importance of sustainable design (and
sustainable food); reducing
food miles by creating a
permaculture
garden; and the renewed popularity of heirloom vegetables and heritage livestock
breeds. This exciting and informative workshop will be held at Brechen,
Susie Webster's wonderful park-like garden fronting the McIntyre River: enjoy
its sweeping lawns, fabulous bougainvilleas and a pretty lake brimming with
water lilies.

Chooks in the City

This
event is part of the wonderful
Australia's
Open Garden Scheme. Chooks in the City author Alyson Hill has spent
her life around chickens. These low-maintenance pets are calming, easy-to-manage and provide the
miracle of fresh eggs. Alyson will discuss the various breeds and their
selection, the pros and cons of roosters, housing requirements, predators,
breeding, feeding and general care. The venue is a private garden with well
designed and ornamental productive plantings. There's a large henhouse and a
portable coop will also be on display.
If you are even vaguely contemplating introducing chooks into your life, this

Australia's Open Garden Scheme, join Queensland's Ambassador Chef David Pugh as
he creates delectable dishes from produce picked fresh from the parterre
garden at historic Banchory Homestead. Using classic techniques and assisted by Banchory's owner Mary Lee
Trivett, David will share some of the secrets he uses in his
award-winning Restaurant Two.
Banchory features masses of roses gracing the generous verandahs,
sweeping lawns and a formal parterre with a wonderful abundance of fresh
vegetables, herbs and spices. This is a culinary experience not to be

Chris Ferreira's Sustainable Garden
|
An
inspirational showpiece of modern gardening. Landcare and
sustainability expert Chris
Ferreira has totally made over his quarter acre block into an inspiring garden
suited to today's climate and lifestyle.
The food-growing area has been revamped to make it more sustainable, and the
waterwise credentials of the
site have been bolstered with the addition of a greywater system, in-line drip
irrigation and waterwise species. New plantings include deciduous trees and
vines, screening and sheltering windbreaks, and a rejuvenation of the
native garden at the
front.
This event is part of the wonderful
Australia's Open Garden Scheme. Teas and refreshments will be available and there'll be plenty of activities
