Victorian Goldfields Railway

An impressive range of big steam engines. From 27 December to mid January, trains run every day on the Sunday times below.

Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club

Running Days - The engines are impressive seen in action and on the last Sunday of each month (except December) many of them are fired up. There will always be at least one or two steam rollers or traction engines in steam, the stationary museum steams up, the big diesels and the vintage workshop also put on a display. There are over 400 engines and associated exhibits scattered through the exhibition sheds around the sites. The grounds have been developed from a raw industrial wasteland to a very pleasant park by the volunteer members of the club over the past 20 years with picnic tables, shade trees and BBQ facilities for picnickers. Ice Creams and cold drinks are available but no food except at rally times. The grounds and museum are open 11am till 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays except the Christmas - New Year period. The Miniature railway operates on Sundays (rides $2). Admission is by donation. To see it all running the best time to visit is rally time. Full information at Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club.

Mooroolbark & District Miniature Railway & Steam Club

Public run days once a month where a small charge applies. Children should be in the charge of an adult and enclosed footwear is required. Picnic and BBQ facilities are available. More information at the Mooroolbark & District Miniature Railway & Steam Club website.

Jerilderie Mini Rail Club

This 7¼" gauge railway is a scale model of a full-size steam railway set in delightful surroundings by the Billabong Creek. Access is via the footbridge sitauted behind 'The Willows' Museum in Powell Street. Open for coach tours etc by request

Mornington Railway

Wycheproof Festival - Steaming Up Broadway

Did you miss this event? Then subscribe to our free email newsletter to receive advance notice of events such as this one. In a unique celebration you can journey to the Wycheproof Festival on board an old steam locomotive starting at Southern Cross Station in Melbourne and finish up by steaming down the main street of Wycheproof - one of just two towns in Victoria with a railway up the main street. 2008 marks the 125th anniversary of rail arriving in Wycheproof. Once in "'Whychy" there is a full weekend of celebrations at the Wycheproof Festival where you can visit the Courthouse Museum or the Paddock2Port exhibition at Willandra Museum, marvel at the enormous Million Bushel Silo or celebrate the 70th anniversary of Charlton theatre at the Rex Theatre Art Deco Extravaganza.

Daylesford Sunday Market

Brought to you by the Daylesford Spa Country Railway, the Daylesford Sunday Market is one of the largest outdoor markets in Victoria with something for everyone. Also on offer are Vintage Train rides to the sleepy town of Bullarto on vechiles from the early to mid 20th Century Set in the historic Daylesford Railway Station, entry and car parking is free.

Emerald Craft and Produce Market

In the beautiful township of Emerald in the Dandenong Ranges next to a beautiful little park is the Emerald Craft and Produce Market. Friendly stallholders sell high quality, homemade, home-grown or vintage goods. Ride Puffing Billy from Belgrave to Emerald Station or about a 1 hour drive from the CBD. A splendid day out in the hills.

Emerald Lake Craft & Produce Market

A small occasional market selling handcrafts and fresh produce. For a special outing, White Hat recommends that you ride Puffing Billy from Belgrave, alight at Lakeside Station and enjoy the market and a picnic before returing on Puffing Billy to Belgrave. Announced dates for 2008 are 16 March and 13 & 20 April 2008.

Qantas In Flight Magazine chooses White Hat Cemetery Tour as its featured Australian tour for May

There are many fine historical tours throughout Australia including cemetery tours. From these, the prestigious Qantas In Flight Magazine has chosen the White Hat Tour of Melbourne Cemetery as its featured Australian tour for the May 2007 edition. This tour was also featured by ABC radio on 24 May and will feature in a documentary series on Burke and Wills to be shown on European television in 2008. The tour has been operating for many years and has won praise from a wide range of sources. This is not a dry and stuffy tour but in keeping with all White Hat offerings it is Informed, Intelligent, Independent (and occasionally) Irreverent.
