The White Hat Guide to Melbourne Park & Olympic Park
This complex is a set of stadiums set in parklands near the river and a short distance from the city. To get there you can either catch a No. 70 tram in Flinders Street, or walk through Birrarung Marr. Alternatively it is a short walk from Flinders Street, Jolimont or Richmond railway stations. Car parking is available - entry from Batman Avenue. It is the home of the Australian Open Tennis. Olympic Park Stadium was built for Melbourne's Olympic Games and acted as a supplementary smaller arena to the nearby MCG. The Rod Laver Arena (named after Rod Laver, the famous Australian tennis player) and Vodafone Arena are more recent multi-purpose stadiums with closable roofs. They are used for tennis, basketball, cycling and other sports, as well as for shows, rock concerts and popular entertainment.
Tours of Rod Laver Arena are available. Enquiries on the phone number below. Melbourne Park was known as Flinders Park until the mid 1990s. | |||||||||||||||||
