Some recently rejuvenated and defunct festivalsLygon Street Carlton has for many years been the home of the large Italian community in Melbourne. Not surprisingly, the Lygon Street Festival (or Festa) had a distinctly Italian flavour. It was the first street festival in Australia and attracted crowds of 400,000 in a single weekend. After several years of hibernation the Lygon Street Festa returned in 2009 but will be replaced in 2010 by a one-day festival called La Dolce Italia. Other street festivals to have disappeared in recent years include the Brunswick Street Street Party and the Chapel Street Festival. St Kilda Festival has been cancelled for 2006 but will re-appear in 2007. See also reasons festivals disappear.
Our listing of
Festivals in Melbourne is widely recognised as the most comprehensive listing of festivals in
Melbourne and Victoria available online or in print. No listing however is
complete, and thus this listing does not contain festivals which have
chosen not to
contact us with their current details.

Qantas In Flight Magazine chooses
White Hat
Cemetery Tour as its featured Australian tour for May

There are many fine historical tours
throughout Australia including cemetery tours. From these, the
prestigious Qantas In Flight Magazine has chosen the White Hat Tour
of Melbourne Cemetery as its featured Australian tour for the May
2007 edition. This tour was also featured by ABC radio on 24 May and
will feature in a documentary series on Burke and Wills to be shown
on European television in 2008. The tour has been operating for many years and has won
praise from a wide range of sources. This is not a dry and stuffy
tour but in keeping with all White Hat offerings it is Informed,
Intelligent, Independent (and occasionally) Irreverent. You can find
details of the tour at White
Hat Tour of Melbourne Cemetery and view the article at
Qantas In Flight Magazine. |
