Some recently defunct festivals

Lygon Street Carlton has for many years been the home of the large Italian community in Melbourne. Not surprisingly, the Lygon Street Festival (or Festa) had a distinctly Italian flavour. It was the first street festival in Australia and attracted crowds of 400,000 in a single weekend. In 2005 the festival  was absorbed by the Herald Sun Bike Tour finishing party and became 'Celebrate on Lygon'.

Other street festivals to have disappeared in recent years include the Brunswick Street Street Party and the Chapel Street Festival. St Kilda Festival has been cancelled for 2006 but will re-appear in 2007. See also reasons festivals disappear.

Our listing of Festivals in Melbourne is widely recognised as the most comprehensive listing of festivals in Melbourne and Victoria available online or in print. No listing however is complete, and thus this listing does not contain festivals which have chosen not to contact us with their current details.
