There you will find shop after shop stocking the basics of the Middle Eastern cuisine. It's never a good idea to go food shopping on an empty stomach - you end up buying far too much. So why not start your expedition with a Lebanese snack at Tabet's Bakery. Then in the nearby shops you will find okra, tahini, hummus, harissa, haloumi cheese, bulghur (the basis of tabouli), kataifi, chickpea flour, nigella seeds, Za'atar, mahleb, nastic, halva roots, rosewater, pomegranite molasses, sumac, dried mouloukhia leaves, fava beans and Syrian apricot paste. Then there are the large containers of nuts and pulses. Many suburbs now have Hallal butchers, but if you can't find one, again take a trip to Sydney Road Brunswick where they abound.
