The White Hat Guide to Organic food stores & ingredients in Melbourne
Organic produce is now relatively plentiful in Melbourne and Victoria. Most fresh food markets now contain an organic section. For instance Shed I at the Victoria Market is almost exclusively organic, while there is also an organic butcher in the meat hall and numbers of the poultry stalls also offer organic poultry. You will also find a range of organic vegetables, meat and poultry at the Prahran Market. Most of the produce at the St. Andrews Market is also organic. In country Victoria, you can buy direct from the grower at many Farmers Markets, and many a roadside stall is now offering organic produce. Like other produce, prices and quality vary considerably, and ,despite certification, it is sometimes questionable whether the final links in the supply chain have remained organic. A local health food store will usually be able to point you to the nearest outlet for organic food.
