The White Hat Guide to Vietnamese food stores & ingredients in MelbourneGood Vietnamese food is currently so cheap in restaurants in Melbourne, you would have to be a bit of a mug to go to all the trouble of cooking it yourself. You will spend ages preparing all the ingredients and in the end it won't taste as good and it may well have cost you more than if you had eaten it in a restaurant. However, I suppose we had better prepare for the times when the local Vietnamese community become affluent and starts charging a premium in their restaurants - just like has happened with the Italians and Greeks who arrived in the 1950s.
It is almost impossible to recommend any one store. Just wander around the Little Saigon centre in Footscray, along Victoria Street in Richmond or the large complex behind the Springvale Road shopping strip in Springvale. You will see a riot of fresh vegetables with every hue of green known to man. No records returned.
