Ian Potter Museum of Art - the White Hat guide

Ian Potter Museum of Art

The Ian Potter Museum of Art at Melbourne University is worth visiting both for its collection and its own architecture. Designed by one of Melbourne's most interesting contemporary architects, Nonda Katsalidis, it incorporates parts of older university buildings such as the Napier Waller's Art Deco stained glass window from the old Wilson Hall

(From time to time, the gallery has exhibitions which entail an entry charge, but these only occupy one area and access to the rest of the gallery is free.)

The gallery is a bequest to the university from the businessman Sir Ian Potter. Thank you Mr Potter for providing one of the places in Melbourne which I enjoy visiting on a regular basis.

His bequest also funds the Ian Potter Centre (the National Gallery of Victoria's Australian collection) at Federation Square.

Qantas In Flight Magazine chooses White Hat Cemetery Tour as its featured Australian tour for May

There are many fine historical tours throughout Australia including cemetery tours. From these, the prestigious Qantas In Flight Magazine has chosen the White Hat Tour of Melbourne Cemetery as its featured Australian tour for the May 2007 edition. This tour was also featured by ABC radio on 24 May and will feature in a documentary series on Burke and Wills to be shown on European television in 2008. The tour has been operating for many years and has won praise from a wide range of sources. This is not a dry and stuffy tour but in keeping with all White Hat offerings it is Informed, Intelligent, Independent (and occasionally) Irreverent.
