Housed in a stunning modern building in the Carlton Gardens and at the rear of the Exhibition Buildings, this is Melbourne's major museum.

For many years its star attraction has been the stuffed racehorse, Pharlap.

Children's Activities at Melbourne Museum

Take part in a selection of regular activities @ Melbourne Museum including

  • Make 'n' Take, creative art & crafts activities for children aged 6 & over (Sat & Sun 1-4pm)
  • Discovery Tables, visit the discovery tables in the Children's Museum to explore the museum's collection (daily)
  • Keeper Talks, meet the members of the Live Exhibits team & learn about the challenges of keeping the live displays at the museum (Sun 3.30pm)
  • Sunday Science, hands-on activities introducing children aged 8 & over to science & technology (Sun 11am)

The Children's Gallery will surprise, delight & intrigue children & their families. A world created especially for 3-8 year olds; the fascinating story of growth unfolds. Discover how plants, animals & humans change as they grow at the Big Box. 

 

 

 

 

 

Top Designs 2008

This exhibition features outstanding VCE student designs and is part of the VCE Season of Excellence, managed by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. It features exemplary student design across a range of areas including design, food and technology, systems engineering, media, multimedia and visual communication. Ninety Nine students were selected across five subject areas to have their work on display in the exhibition. Students achieved a very high score in their VCE studies and works chosen display skills in ideas, use of materials and originality. Folio and design plans are exhibited alongside students’ designs, providing visitors with an insight into the development of each design from the original concept to the finished product. Works featured in the exhibition include: • Electric upright bass and promotion t-shirt designs – Visual Communication and Design • Oasis Foosball table – Design and Technology • Ye Olde Lolly Shop On Collins – Food and Technology • Short films and photography – Media • Animatronic Dog – Systems Engineering. Standard museum entry fees apply - students free.

ASMR Medical Research Week RRR outside broadcast

Outside broadcast of RRR’s weekly radio science show, Einstein A Go Go. Join the Einstein A Go Go crew and guest medical researchers for a morning of science talk, music and laughs, LIVE. Meet the scientists! Listen to RRR’s Dr Andi, Dr Shane and Dr “Danger Mouse” Dave gossip about the weird and wonderful world of medical science. An initiative of the Australian Society for Medical Research. The broadcast is at the Melbourne Museumin the foyer of the ‘Mind and Body’ gallery.

Qantas In Flight Magazine chooses White Hat Cemetery Tour as its featured Australian tour for May

There are many fine historical tours throughout Australia including cemetery tours. From these, the prestigious Qantas In Flight Magazine has chosen the White Hat Tour of Melbourne Cemetery as its featured Australian tour for the May 2007 edition. This tour was also featured by ABC radio on 24 May and will feature in a documentary series on Burke and Wills to be shown on European television in 2008. The tour has been operating for many years and has won praise from a wide range of sources. This is not a dry and stuffy tour but in keeping with all White Hat offerings it is Informed, Intelligent, Independent (and occasionally) Irreverent.
