Those interested in the subject of urban myths are sure to be interested in Francis Wheen's How Mumbo-Jumbo Conquered the World (see below).

This highly entertaining book documents and debunks a whole range of
manufactured myths, media-induced mass unreason, post-modernist academic
fakery, vacuous business and self-help 'philosophies' and new age snake
oil that have become popular in recent years.

tightly-argued plea to recognise mumbo jumbo for what it is and to
champion the values of the Enlightenment philosophers.
