St Kilda FestivalSunday is the St Kilda Festival, and expect it to be big. Last year there were 300,000 people, cars were in grid lock, and the air was full of music, testosterone and hip imitation American teen speak. Details at Community Festivals. Free orchestral concerts at the Music BowlThe annual season of free orchestral concerts at the Music Bowl starts on Saturday night. Melbourne has a long history of philanthropy from successful business people, and without Sidney Myer we wouldn't have the Music Bowl or these free concerts - thanks Sid. On Sunday there is a Doris Day concert, but admission is charged and there is no BYO alcohol. Apparently organizers had visions of alcohol-charged Doris Day fans terrorizing the city. Details of concerts at the bowl can be found at Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Other musicIf the classics or Doris Day are not your cup of tea, never mind. You could always saddle up and ride out to the Whittlesea Country Music Festival - Melbourne's answer to Nashville. There is a high profile Music & Blues Festival at Jeff's Shed featuring names like Bob Dylan starting next week. Tickets are still available for James Taylor at Popular Music in Melbourne. If your tastes run to Ja Rule and Ashanti, they are performing in March. Tickets available at Popular Music in Melbourne. If you prefer world music, try the amphitheatre at Studley Park on Sunday evening. And if none of that takes your fancy, there is always a steady stream of aging rockers performing "the greatest music of all time" from whatever year it was that time stopped for you. We will try to keep you up to date at Popular Music in Melbourne. Avalon AirshowThe Avalon Airshow starts next week - go down and pick out your preferred weapon of moderate destruction. This only happens every two years and is cunningly bridged to the Grand Prix by the International Motor Show. If you get your kicks from sniffing high octane fuel, have we got a month for you! However, if it's just adrenaline and thrills you're after, ride a Melbourne train.
