A particularly good collection of 19th Century Australian and European art. Its collections include a special collection of art from the Bendigo goldfields, 19th Century European paintings, sculptures and decorative arts and contemporary Australian art. The original Victorian era gallery has recently been expanded with modern extensions.
The Geelong Gallery contains an impressive general coverage as befits one of Victoria's oldest rural cities. Paintings include Frederick McCubbin's A Bush Burial.
One of the greatest surprises in country Victorian galleries is the Paul Sandby collection at Hamilton. Sandby was one of the most important English watercolourists, and the gallery has a significant and extensive collection of his works.
The gallery also has a fine collection of silver, glass, porcelain, oriental ceramics, paintings, prints, tapestries and furniture.
On our last visit to this gallery (June 2002) there was a disappointingly small range of works on display (lack of space?). However, the visit was certainly worthwhile because of the fascinating Rio Vista. The grounds of the gallery also contain a significant collection of sculpture from 1960 - 1980.
Horsham Regional Art GalleryThe gallery is renowned for its Mack Jost collection of contemporary art and is housed in an original art deco building. 80 Wilson Street
