The Naked and the Nude

The naked body in art will be celebrated at the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery this Spring. The Naked and the Nude takes the viewer on a fresh and challenging journey of the nude in art, both male and female, through the 19th, 20th and into the 21st Centuries.

Bendigo Art Gallery

A particularly good collection of 19th Century Australian and European art. Its collections include a special collection of art from the Bendigo goldfields, 19th Century European paintings, sculptures and decorative arts and contemporary Australian art. The original Victorian era gallery has recently been expanded with modern extensions.

Geelong Gallery

The Geelong Gallery contains an impressive general coverage as befits one of Victoria's oldest rural cities. Paintings include Frederick McCubbin's A Bush Burial.

Hamilton Art Gallery

One of the greatest surprises in country Victorian galleries is the Paul Sandby collection at Hamilton. Sandby was one of the most important English watercolourists, and the gallery has a significant and extensive collection of his works.

The gallery also has a fine collection of silver, glass, porcelain, oriental ceramics, paintings, prints, tapestries and furniture.

Mildura Arts Centre Gallery

On our last visit to this gallery (June 2002) there was a disappointingly small range of works on display (lack of space?). However, the visit was certainly worthwhile because of the fascinating Rio Vista. The grounds of the gallery also contain a significant collection of sculpture from 1960 - 1980.

The gallery is renowned for its Mack Jost collection of contemporary art and is housed in an original art deco building.

The Exhibitions Gallery at Wangaratta does not have a permanent collection but hosts diverse travelling exhibitions throughout the year.

A diverse collection covering , Australian Colonial painting, Melbourne Modernism (c1930-50), European Salon painting and Contemporary Australian Prints. 


Ararat Gallery

Specialising in contemporary fibre and textile art.


Castlemaine Art Gallery and Museum

A significant collection of Australian landscape painting art from the late 1800s. The Gallery is housed in an original art deco building with carefully restored period features.


Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery

This gallery specialises in Australian prints and drawings, and has one of the most significant collections of works on paper in Australia.

Qantas In Flight Magazine chooses White Hat Cemetery Tour as its featured Australian tour for May

There are many fine historical tours throughout Australia including cemetery tours. From these, the prestigious Qantas In Flight Magazine has chosen the White Hat Tour of Melbourne Cemetery as its featured Australian tour for the May 2007 edition. This tour was also featured by ABC radio on 24 May and will feature in a documentary series on Burke and Wills to be shown on European television in 2008. The tour has been operating for many years and has won praise from a wide range of sources. This is not a dry and stuffy tour but in keeping with all White Hat offerings it is Informed, Intelligent, Independent (and occasionally) Irreverent.
