The White Hat Guide to Major Events in Australia
 |
Birdsville Races
|
|
This iconoc outback event is known as much for its socialising as it is for its horse racing. White Hat recommends that if you only have time to asttend one major event in the outback that you should consider this one. Once a year the remote town of Birdsville on the Birdsville Track comes alive with visitors from all over the outback as well as the rest of Australia. Don't expect acres of clipped lawns or delicately manicured roses, but do expect some hearty outback good cheer. |

Gympie Music Muster
|
|
This annual event has been running for more than two decades and is one of
the major country music events in Australia. It is also the largest
not-for-profit charity event of its type in Australia. Each year features a
number of headline acts as well as emerging artists and ordinary talented people
for whom singing and performing is just a natural extension of their everyday
lives. If you are thinking of going, White Hat strongly recommends that you try
to make time to get up there and camp before the festival, because teh
pre-festival campground atmosphere is one of the things that makes this event
particularly special. Full details at
Gympie Muster.

Australian Brandenburg Orchestra - Bach Eternal
|
Between
them , Bach and Handel wrote some of the most glorious choral music of the
Baroque period. Much of it involves collaboration with the orchestra which
sometimes the voices taking the lead and at others the instruments. White Hat
suggests that you are most likely to hear and appreciate this interplay when
period instruments are used at a high standard as you can be assured will happen
when the Brandenburg Choir joins with the
Australian
Brandenburg Orchestra under Artistic Director and conductor Paul Dyer

TOURISM NEWS
Qantas In Flight Magazine chooses
White Hat
Cemetery Tour as its featured Australian tour for May

There are many fine historical tours
throughout Australia including cemetery tours. From these, the
prestigious Qantas In Flight Magazine has chosen the White Hat Tour
of Melbourne Cemetery as its featured Australian tour for the May
2007 edition. This tour was also featured by ABC radio on 24 May and
will feature in a documentary series on Burke and Wills to be shown
on European television in 2008. The tour has been operating for many years and has won
praise from a wide range of sources. This is not a dry and stuffy
tour but in keeping with all White Hat offerings it is Informed,
Intelligent, Independent (and occasionally) Irreverent. You can find
details of the tour at White
Hat Tour of Melbourne Cemetery and view the article at
Qantas In Flight Magazine. |
