The White Hat Guide to the Iwaki Auditorium
The Iwaki Auditorium is a small concert hall that is part of the ABC complex at Southbank close to the Melbourne Arts Centre. It seats about 200 people and is well suited to chamber and solo performances. It is often used by the ABC for live broadcasts , particularly for the Sunday Live program on ABC Classic FM. The auditorium is the rehearsal studio for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and is also used as a recording studio. It is named after Hiroyuki Iwaki, the Japanese born conductor whose long association with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra resulted in him being that orchestra's first Conductor Laureate. Maestro Iwaki died in June 2006.

The musicians that make up Songmakers Australia are Merlyn Quaife,
soprano, Sally-Anne Russell, mezzo-soprano and Nicholas Dinopoulos,
bass-baritone. They will be accompanied by pianist Andrea Katz in this
program made up of Other Love Songs by Stephen Hough and then
Brahms' Neue Liebeslieder.
This free concert begins at 3pm and if you would like to attend, you must be
seated by 2:50, as the live broadcast begins at 3pm sharp. |

Qantas In Flight Magazine chooses
White Hat
Cemetery Tour as its featured Australian tour for May
There are many fine historical tours
throughout Australia including cemetery tours. From these, the
prestigious Qantas In Flight Magazine has chosen the White Hat Tour
of Melbourne Cemetery as its featured Australian tour for the May
2007 edition. This tour was also featured by ABC radio on 24 May and
will feature in a documentary series on Burke and Wills to be shown
on European television in 2008. The tour has been operating for many years and has won
praise from a wide range of sources. This is not a dry and stuffy
tour but in keeping with all White Hat offerings it is Informed,
Intelligent, Independent (and occasionally) Irreverent. You can find
