Iwaki Auditorium

Southbank, Melbourne

The Iwaki Auditorium is a small concert hall that is part of the ABC complex at Southbank close to the Melbourne Arts Centre. It seats about 200 people and is well suited to chamber and solo performances. It is often used by the ABC for live broadcasts , particularly for the Sunday Live program on ABC Classic FM.

The auditorium is the rehearsal studio for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and is also used as a recording studio. It is named after Hiroyuki Iwaki, the Japanese born conductor whose long association with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra resulted in him being that orchestra's first Conductor Laureate. Maestro Iwaki died in June 2006.
