Louise Hanson-Dyer was a socialite, philanthropist and business woman who
had a large influence on the musical life of Melbourne. She helped establish
the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and arranged performances of 'early
music' and French baroque music at a time when it was little known in
Australia (or Europe for that matter).
She founded the L'Oiseau Lyre music publishing and recording
company which has done much to champion music from the Ars Nova
period through to the 18th century.
