The 4th of July, Independence Day, is the National Day of the United States of America. It is celebrated as a public holiday in USA and marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the then 13 states from the British Empire. The Declaration document had been drafted by Thomas Jefferson and the preamble begins with these words:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
