On this day each year you will see the United Nations Flag flying on government and other buildings throughout Australia. This is to commemorate the creation of the United Nations in 1945. If the location has only one flagpole, the UN Flag displaces the Australian Flag for the day. If there are two or more flagpoles the UN Flag is flown in the pre-eminent position with the Australian Flag on the secondary flagpole.
