and informative Tour
of Melbourne Cemetery.
Harold Holt was Prime Minister of Australia from January 1966 until December
1967 when he disappeared whilst swimming in heavy surf of Cheviot Beach. He
is one of the few Australian Prime Ministers to die in office.
His body
has never been found, hence the headstone in Melbourne Cemetery is strictly
a memorial rather than his gravestone.
Ironically, for someone who died while swimming, he has a swimming pool
named after him in Melbourne - The Harold Holt Memorial Pool.
