Jack Riley

Jack Riley arrived in Sydney in 1851, having migrated from Castlebar,
County Mayo in Ireland. He went to Omeo in the
high
country of Victoria to live with and support his widowed sister. He set
up a tailoring business in Day Street, but when his sister remarried he was
able to pursue the life of a gold digger, bushman and stockman.

The Man From Snowy River Bush Festival
Inspired by Banjo Paterson's
famous poem The Man from Snowy
River, this festival features a street parade, craft and trade markets,
concert, performances, exhibitions, food and a Jack Riley's Ride celebrating
Jack Riley, claimed to be the original Man from
Snowy River.
