On this day in 1885 Isaac Isaacs
was born. He was to become Australia's first Australian-born Governor
General. We have listed him in our

On this day in 1835 John Batman
conducted a treaty with
local Aborigines regarding the annual lease of land in the region now known as
Victoria.
On this day in 1942 a large allied force landed on the beaches of France in what
is now known as D-Day.
This day is also Swedish National Day recognising both the day in 1523 when when
King Gustavus I came to the throne as well as the day in 1809 when the Swedish
Constitution was adopted in 1809. It is a public holiday in Sweden.
